The King and Queen of Corinth raise Oedipus as their own. When he grows up, he hears about the prophecy regarding his own life. Oedipus then decides to change his destiny.

After Oedipus hears the prophecy, he decides to leave Corinth to protect who he thinks are his real parents. Along the way, he runs into King Laius, unaware of who he is, and kills him. Eventually Oedipus marries his mother, also unknowingly, and the present story begins.
