    This is a timeline of the 10 generations of a phone from 1930, to 2020. There is one phone in each decade shown in the timeline.

    Manual telephone service was still common in smaller areas, and large cities often had a combination of manual service, or dial service. Telephone companies were mostly forced to keep using whatever equipment they had installed prior to the beginning of the war.

    The phones were black and made of Bakelite (an early plastic.) They were in two parts, the handset and the base unit. The handset was just the right size and shape for speaking directly into the telephone.

    They introduced the “Princess Phone." It was the first time phone designers started thinking about the aesthetics of the phone. It had a cool, modern, vaguely “feminine” oval shape. It boasted a dial that lit up when you lifted the receiver. It was small enough to fit on a bed nightstand. It was the first phone to come in different colors, some of them being pink, sage green, shrimp, powder blue, aqua, butter yellow, burgundy red and others.

    It wasn't until the 1970's that this type of phone largely replaced the rotary dial phone. This phone was eventually also available in a number of colors. It was one of the first phones to have the numbers as buttons on the display.

They were called mobile phones, but were referred to as bricks because they were the size of a brick. The phones rapidly became a cult retro item. Mobile phone users were rare a sight and the size of the handset made their users stand out in a crowd.

    The first flip phone was created and the first cell phone call was made using the new phone, which was faster and more reliable than ever before. The new technology also made cell phones capable of being smaller rather than the size of a brick. Prices also became more affordable than they were in the 1980's.

    For the first time, the phones came compatible with a small key pad, where you could text, or use it to search things up on the web. It was made with a bigger screen and an improved touch screen. The graphics were a lot better and there was more games to play as well.

    Today, the phones have evolved so much. You are able to open the screen with just showing it your face, you are able to make pictures and face time, which is calling while you can see each other's face. It comes in many different colors and it keeps evolving.
