    Chomsky would take trips to New York City at the age of 13, where he would find books for his insatiable reading habit and met thriving working class Jewish intellectual communities. He would have discussions with them that would begin to shape his theory that all people are capable of comprehending policial and economic issues.
  • University of Pennsylvania

    At the age of 16, he studied at the University of Pennsylvania where he majored in linguistics. He earned is PhD and was the tutelage of Zelig Harris.
  • The Morphophonemics of Modern Hebrew

    His masters thesis. He wrote this durning his junior fellowship at Harvard.
  • Denounced

    Working with Harris and Nelson Goodman (leading linguist of his time) Chomsky wrote The Logical Structure of Linguistic Theory. He described language learning the use of a basic range of grammar followed with principles in accordance to cues drawn from a child’s environment. This was vastly different from Goodman’s view where he believed all children have a “blank” mind and language learning is a conditioned response to stimuli. After this publication both Harris and Goodman denounced him.

    Chomsky wrote “Syntactic Structures” based on a series of lectures he gave to MIT students.This impressed the University and he was then asked establish a new graduate program at MIT.
  • Acceptance

    Chomsky later published a review of Verbal Behavior (1959) which became regarded as the definitive account for behavioral learning. He also published Aspects of the Theory of Syntax (1965) and Cartesian Linguistics (1966) which gained wider acceptance within linguistics and many theoretical variations within the paradigm.
