a parents divorce can really affect a young child such as Nic. it can make him question things. Nic had to move from place to place to stay with each parent. he never haid a steady life or a steady home growing up. this could have caused him to look for something like drugs to make him feel happy. -
Nic suspended for buying marijuana
not only is Nic buying marijuana but he will eventually smoke it. this shows his entrance into the use of drugs. When Nic begins to smoke marijuana it shows his interest in drugs and the affects they have. By Nic smoking marijuana he is making the choice to try drugs of all kinds in the future. -
nic trys to get clean
nic and his girlfriend have made an agreement. that they wont use and if the other one slips they call the cops on them. one day nic said hed be back in 15 minutes and she sat waiting for 4 hours until a friend cane and got her. Nic has clearly relapsed and needs serious help -
frances impact
when Nic returned from france he seemed different. He began doing worse in his classes. He also started skipping classes. He also quit the water polo and swim teams. its and interesting situation because his counselor says he shows a strong sense of candor. -
Nic robbing the house
Nic robbing the house of cash and food shows his little repect for david. It shows how desperate for drugs he is that he would steal from his own family. he needs the drugs so badly that he is willing to take from his family. he obviously has no respect for david and karen or their rules. -
Nic is arrested
Nic was not only given a court order for possession of mrijuana but did not tell david about this. Nic wasnt just arrested but he was arrested infront of both family and friends. He showed blatant disregard for rules and got in serious trouble for it. Nic is on a fast spiral downwards -
nic runs away
When Nic runs away his family is terribly worried about him. jasper and daisey are just little kids and have to be worried about their brother. when Nic calls not only is he weak from meth bu the is in trouble. he owes people money and if he doesnt pay them they will kill him -
nics continues to disappear
Nic once again left after recovering from his last encounter with meth. he leaves without warning and is gone for a good period of time again. he doesnt seem to care about what he does or who he hurts. as long as he has meth he seems to beleive that he is fine. -
Nic goes to a rehab meeting
At a meeting nic goes to about joing a certain rehabilitaion program they do and interview. the woman says nic is too old and has been using for too long for the program to really do much to help him. she suggests another program and that is the end of that. -
family rehab visits
at these visits Nic shows his discontent for the program. when asked thins he'll give one word or extremely short answers. he also doesnt show much interest in the fact tha david and karen are there and supporting him. he just seems very empty and sad. -
nic gets beat up and robbed
Nic is being picked up from another disappearance but this time is injured. he shows and black mark on his cheek and gash on his forhead from a beating. he says that it is "no big deal" but being beat up and robbed is actuslly a big deal. -
Nic begins to heal
he atteneds AA meetings and is staying sober. When nic speaks of his AA meetins he uses his dry humor to not really have to talk about it. Nic going to the meeting is good because he gets to share his story and hear the stories of others. -
Nic robs his house
Karen calles david to tell him that thinsg are out of place. when they look in the bedroom the door is broken and the desk is ransaced. nic has clearly been here and has clearly stole from them again. Nic keeps doing things like this and is relapsing all of the time. -
Nic gets a job
Nic begins to work for the rehabilitatiob program called promises. he will drive people to meeting and doctor appointments, helps out the counselros and gives out medical supplies. he find that he is needed here and finds what he does fufilling in many ways -
family vacation
Nic is invited to join the family for a vacation so they can see him. when he arrives he gives japer and daisy big bear hugs and tells them how much he missed the,.he seems to really comfort and connect with the two of them. he never lets them see whats really happeneing to him.
