    The revolutionary war between the colonies and Great Britain begins

  • Declaration of Independence

    The Declaration of Independence is written and the 13 colonies become the 13 states but are not united under a central government.

  • Articles of Confederation

    The revolutionary war ends and the articles of confederation are written to form federal law

  • Constitutional Convention

    Representatives of the 13 states show up and the constitutional convention is held and the constitution is signed.

  • Central government is formed

    The constitution is now the law of the land
