New Deal Programs

  • Civilian Conservation Corps

    Civilian Conservation Corps
    Many programs were created at this time to help families make money. The intended purpose of the CCC was to provide relief for people in the Depression with work projects and cash payments. Young men were sent to work on big projects like building roads or planting trees. The small amount of money they earned from working was sent to their families. Men working were given food, clothes and shelter in the camps they worked. They planted many trees that were meant to prevent another Dust Bowl.
  • Agricultural Adjustment Administration

    Agricultural Adjustment Administration
    This administration was set up under the Agricultaral Adjustment Act. Their goal was to aid farmers and regulate crop production. This way farmers were able to keep their land and continue selling their crops to consumers.
  • Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation

    Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation
    This corporation was established by the federal government to regulate banking and investment activities. As aid was provided by the government however, the government started to go into debt. The debt caused the deficit to increase by millions from the spending of war materials by the government.
  • National Recovery Administration

    National Recovery Administration
    This Administration was formed under the National Industrail Recovery Act. Their goal was to establish fair practice for individual industries. The administration set prices of many products and eastablished standards.Workers began establishing demands and many businesses and politicians critized the NRA. Charges also arose as well.
  • Federal Housing Administration

    Federal Housing Administration
    This administration was created under the National Housing Act of 1934. Their goal was to increasing housing and decrease homelessness. They insured loans for building and repairing homes, making more places for people to live.
  • Works Progress Administration

    Works Progress Administration
    The Works Progress Administration was set up to help youths, professionals, and other workers. Their goal was to create as many jobs as possible. Many public works with lasting value were made to the nation, as well as, gave people hope and some pride in what they were doing. Special efforts were made toward women, minorities and young people as well.
  • Rural Electrification Administration

    Rural Electrification Administration
    This administration was created under the Second New Deal to promote rural electrification and to regulae public utilities. They worked with electrical cooperatives to bring electricity to isolated areas. The regulation of public utilities was proven to be difficult because many companies disagreed with it.
  • Social Security Administration

    Social Security Administration
    This administration was created under the Social Security Act. To provide security for retired workers, the administration provided a pension for the workers. The administration also aided people with disabilities. People started feeling secure with their money.
  • United States Housing Authority

    United States Housing Authority
    This program was set up under the Wagner-Steagall Act.To decrease the amount of homeless people and families, the government provided federal loans for low-cost public housing. This way people had a place to live, and had a minimal amount of money to pay back to the government.
  • Fair Labor Standards Act

    Fair Labor Standards Act
    This act was established to make the workplace fair for the average worker. The act set a minimum hourly wage and a maximum number of work hours. Child labor was also banned and workers began to like their working conditions.
