Industry vs. Inferiority
Neulysis (age10) had just joined the soccer team at his middle school. He was proud of himself at how good he was getting at the sport. Neulysis always strove to be the M.V.P. at every game, but unfortunately he always fell short to one of his other teammates.
In Erikson’s fourth stage, industry versus inferiority, the crisis is between one's self trying to establish a good reputation for themselves and one's own feeling of not measuring up to their peers. -
Identity vs. Role Confusion
Neulysis (age 16) was helping his parents with some house hold chores. He was supposed to help his dad fix the front entrance door. To himself he thought that he would much prefer help his mother and sister with the gardening.
In Erikson's fifth stage,identity versus role confusion, the crisis is between one's self and the personal struggle of finding one's own role in life to finding one's (identity). -
Generativity vs. Stagnation
Neulysis (age 41) was a successful nurse and was content with his life where it was. One day he saw a flyer to volunteer to teach kids in Chile about medicinal practices. He gladly signed up.
In Erikson's seventh stage,generativity versus. stagnation, the crisis is between one wanting to give back to others, usually the next generation, when they see themselves as accomplishing most of their personal life goals.
