    Brooklyn notices things!
Brooklyn has become very aware of her surroundings at 3 months old. She can focus her eyes on me and other things, and she smiles at familiar people. Her ability to understand her surroundings involve sensation and perception (pp. 131). From birth, one can only see things up to 20 feet in comparison to an adult's ability to accurately see between 200 and 600 feet. On average, an infant can see 20/20 by 6 months old (pp. 132). It looks like Brooklyn is on the right track!

    Brooklyn's stranger anxiety
At 12 months old, Brooklyn displayed stranger anxiety when someone unfamiliar came to visit. She cried when the person tried to approach her. Stranger anxiety is a type of distress brought about by encountering someone unfamiliar (pp. 172). This usually appears after about 6 months. This is because of developments in memory that allows them to differentiate between people they recognize and people they don't.

At 18 months old, Brooklyn's language is really developing as she is starting to talk a lot! She knows about 50 words now and uses telegraphic speech. Telegraphic speech is a 2-word sentence used by children in order to convey a message (pp.159-160). Examples of these that Brooklyn uses is "Mama up" and "Doggie outside". This telegraphic speech is usually seen around 18 months, or around 8 to 12 months after saying their first word.
