    Email Address
In 7th grade, my class arrives at the computer lab where we are all going to set up an 'email account' using Yahoo! the token homepage for our internet browsers. Mr. Hardy, my teacher, instructs us "do not use your real name as the username!" I creatively spell my name and bogus surname to navigate this brave new world called the internet. I still use serrah_smythe@yahoo.com to this day but have since realized it is acceptable to use one's REAL name over the world wide web! Photo from Yahoo!

    Cell Phone
The first cell phone I owned was a Nokia phone that simply made voice calls and had a voicemail setup. The idea that I could make calls while away from home was very novel. Photo credit to google images.

    Online Shopping
With the ability to shop online, I was able to use half.com to purchase my college textbooks. Traditionally, students only had the option of buying their textbooks from the school bookstore which had a significant markup. Online shopping gave a competitive edge to allow students access to save money on textbooks. Photo credit: google.com images

    College Procrastination Increases Nationwide
News travels across my college campus (Shepherd University) that there is a new website called Facebook that students can join. At that time, it required a valid college email, verified, to create an account. Social networking soon explodes with Myspace and other similar sites, many tested on college aged students.Photo credit: facebook.com
  • First Online Class

The first online class I 'attended' was through UVA for graduate credit, hosted by Blackboard. This was the first time to participate in a discussion board and work on curriculum modules.
