My Reading Timeline

  • Early Years

    Early Years
As a todller I obviously couldn’t read but I was always stealing magazine around the house. My parents would say I would just sit and look at picture’s and flip through them over and over.
  • Kindergarten

    Kindergarten
I remember sitting in the back of the class or just follow the other kids because I did not know one lick of English. My parents said that within a couple of months I was catching up. I also remember reading small paper books with my parents the teacher would send out as homework. One of the first books I remember clearly reading by myself was, Dr.Seuss Green Eggs & Ham.
  • First Grade

    First Grade
I was lucky enough to have a teacher who was bilingual. This alone helped me tremendously. During this time, I remember my father reading to me in Spanish all the fairytales, a huge storybook. I would memorize the stories and “read” them back to him. My parents said that during this time, whenever we went to parties at my cousins' house I would just run over to use their Leapfrog Leappad while the other kids played around me. I went from reading Dr.Seuss everything to Amelia Bedelia everything.
  • Second Grade

    Second Grade
The Amelia Bedelia obsession continued until my teacher introduced Junie B. Jones. I began reading one to two Junie B Jones books a week. It was also during this time that I would ask my parents to take me to library. I remember taking my purple library card with the lizard on it to school to show it off.
  • Third Grade

    Third Grade
By 3rd grade I felt much more comfortable in my verbal and reading skills. In third grade my love for reading blossomed even further when I was introduced to famous, A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket.
  • Fourth Grade

    Fourth Grade
During this time I began reading books like Chicken Soup for the Soul, Goosebumps, and anything by Judy Blume.
  • Fifth Grade

    Fifth Grade
In 5th grade if you didn’t see me playing with legos I was probably off reading a book. I remember reading Holes by Louis Sachar & a dark version series of Oz books in class. Here is when I came to the conclusion that books are always better than the movies.
  • Reading Shows

    Reading Shows
My reading experience during elementary school age years was also influenced by shows like Reading Rainbow, Arthur, and Between the Lions.
  • Middle school

    Middle school
During my middle school years, I fell in love with Shakespeare’s Hamlet but the main rave during this time was glittery vampires. & Oh boy, was I obsessed with the Twilight series
  • Highschool Years

    Highschool Years
My love for reading continued. One of the best experiences was reading My Brother's Voice: How a Young Hungarian Boy Survived the Holocaust: A True Story, & getting the amazing opportunity to meet him, & getting my book signed.
  • Present Time

    Present Time
I’ve built my little library that’s slow began to take over my room, with both physical and e-books in my kindle. As of right now, I’m obsessed with any book that will make me cry. Whether it’s because it a sappy love story or tragic story based on real events. My dream since I was a little girl is to have a Belle’s (yes, the princess) Library.
  • Forever

    Forever
Reading to me has been a blessing. It’s been my escape when real life gets too crazy.
