Reading history
This is a personal history of how I feel about reading -
Judy Bloom Books
In later elementary school I remember loving the Judy Bloom series of books. They were fun to read. At this point I still remember liking to read. -
Procrastination
In middle school my feeling of reading changed to dislike. I waited till the last minute to read Dracula and tried to read the entire book in one day. Then do a book report on it. -
Shakespeare
The in class reading of Romeo and Julie I remember to be tortuous. I had a hard time comprehending an average text forget interpreting Shakespeare. Reading is now a daunting task. -
Harry Potter
After the release of the third book I became interned by all the hype. I picked up the book at the first book at airport before the flight. With in the week I had read all three that were out and could not get enough. Maybe I like reading. -
After Potter
I tried other books after Potter but never finished any. I felt I should be reading "adult books". Reading Potter was ok because everyone else did. -
College
Returning to college after 15 years. I was out of practice of reading. Reading texted book just Brough back memories of how hard and frustrating reading is for me. Why did I do this???? -
Juvenile Literature
The first set of require reading I had was in a summer class. Three books I would have never picked up off a shelf. I was pleasantly surprised I enjoyed each one of them. So glad I am going to be a teacher. It is a great excuse to read juvenile literature. -
Award wining books
After a couple more semester and a few more book read I have changed my mind on reading. With the new knowledge of reading strategies and comprehension strategies I now read with understanding. Award wining book have give added depth to the books -
Summer reading list
I have a summer reading list. Other than Potter I have never once read because I wanted to. I have found a love for juvenile literature. I no longer feel that it matter about what other people think. I see now I am setting a good example for my children. I love to read. Texted book still not my favorite but I have strategies to support understanding. Reading is no longer a daunting task.
