My Reading History

  • Childhood

    Childhood
Even though my mom knew little English, she made sure my siblings and I had picture books around the house growing up.
  • Mother

    Mother
When I was young, my mom would not let me play until I read at least 30 minutes. She'd always wait to ask me questions about what I had read so she knew I wasn't pretending to read.
  • Library

    Library
My first public library card! I enjoyed attending the read-out-loud. I looked forward to checking out a new picture book.
  • Plays

    Plays
Elementary: After finishing a book (can't recall the name), we turned it into a play and acted it out. We used props and dressed up. Parents came to see. Something I'd use with my future students
  • Reading Logs

    Reading Logs
Middle School: Reading logs were a big part of homework. Had to write a summary/thoughts about what I had read each night.
  • A Series of Unfortunate Events

    A Series of Unfortunate Events
6th grade: My biggest accomplishment was reading through all 13 books of this series. One of the first books I read that stuck with me.
  • Popcorn Reading

    Popcorn Reading
The one reading activity that I will always remember. I would be so nervous and scared to get called on. It made me want to follow along as we read as a class.
  • Sister

    Sister
I admired my older sister reading 24/7. She always seemed so into her reading. Eventually, she was the one that recommended I read for fun not just for school.
  • James Patterson

    James Patterson
Discovered him in high school. He's my go-to author when I want to pleasure read.
  • AP English

    AP English
High School: Biggest accomplish was being enrolled in AP English. Many reading components and tips for being a successful reader stuck with me from this course.
