Most nights my parents would read me a book. If I was at my grandparents, they would do the same. I loved having adults read to me.

Read books and completed book reports in fourth and fifth grade. This is a point where I did not enjoy reading. It felt like a chore to me.

A classroom of second grade students came into our classroom to read to us. They were practicing reading aloud and we assisted as needed.

While I had a rough couple years with not enjoying reading, in middle school I began to read more and came to enjoy it. I liked being able to pick out a book I enjoy and not reading books in class that I have to read.

As a reader, I have to not only read the words on the page, but also say aloud to myself. Being able to say it myself allows me to better process what I am reading.

Instead of reading a book as a class, in High School we read individually, but discussed the book in class.

As I got out of high school, I began to see how reading is essential to learning and growing. This is not only true for students, but adults as well.

I have come to realize that I really do love reading, even if I don't always make time for it. My experiences shaped me into the reader I am today. The struggles were tough and are a part of why I am not motivated to read all the time, but the good times made me see how much I enjoy it and can really get lost within a good book.
