My Reading History

  • My First Book

    My First Book
In Kindergarten, the first book I read was Dr. Suess One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish. I love the rhymes in the book so much I want to read another book. The book really got me interested in reading books.
  • Read-Along Gremlin Books

    Read-Along Gremlin Books
Since I was a beginner reader, my mom purchased the read-along series of the Gremlin Books written by Chris Columbus. There were five books total in the series. I would play the record and follow along in the book. Doing so, made me feel like I could read the book even though it was above my reading level. The books kept me interested in reading. I always look forward to reading the next book.
  • Walt Disney's Cinderella

    Walt Disney's Cinderella
Walt Disney's Cinderella book published by A Little Golden Books fostered my love for folktales. The book led to my creativity and imagination growing. I even created a Cinderella costume to wear on Halloween.
  • The Berenstain Bears Get Stage Fright

The Berenstain Bears Get Stage Fright
I had to play a role in my schools Christmas play and was so nervous. My mom read "The Berenstain Bears Get Stage Fright" written by Stan and Jan Berenstain book to help me overcome my fears of being on stage.
  • James and The Giant Peach

    James and The Giant Peach
James and The Giant Peach written by Roald Dahl was the first chapter book I read. After writing my book report on the book, I realized I loved chapter books. I loved how it was one big story and the chapters built upon each other. I never wanted to put the book down!
  • Where the Sidewalk Ends

    Where the Sidewalk Ends
My fifth-grade teacher loved the author Shel Silverstein. One day she read "Where the Sidewalk Ends" written and illustrated by Shel Silverstein. This was the first time I truly realized literature could have an effect on how a person feels. This book became one of my favorites and lead me to explore poetry.
  • Arthur's Eyes

    Arthur's Eyes
I had to get glasses and thought it was the worst thing in the world. My mom reminded me of a book I read called Arthur's Eyes written by Marc Brown. After rereading the book, I felt a lot better about getting glasses. I remember thinking four eyes are better than two! Plus, the book helped me realized books can relate to real life events.
  • Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone
The first book I purchased because I was interested in reading was Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone written by J. K. Rowling. In the past, books were either read to me or were book reports I had to complete in school. At the time of the purchase, I did not realize it would be a series of book I would continue to buy in the future. Confirming my love for reading!
  • The Polar Express

    The Polar Express
The Polar Express is a children's book written and illustrated by Chris Van Allsburg. Through books, we can create family traditions. Every Christmas my family picks a Christmas book for the family reading night. The Polar Express was the first book we read. Years later, we relived those memories and went on the Polar Express ride in Carson City.
  • Chicka Chicka Boom Boom

    Chicka Chicka Boom Boom
During a teaching internship, I had the opportunity to read to a Kindergarten class. Wanting to mimic my first experience of a book read to me in Kindergarten, I chose the book "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom" written by By Bill Martin Jr. and John Archambault. The book helped me realized to keep students interested you must keep students engaged. The book showed me to use Web Tool, since the book and song are on YouTube. Students love to go back and reread! This was the experience I was striving for!
