    Speech Therapy

While growing up I developed a pretty bad stuttering problem. By the time I was in 2nd grade I was only able to get a couple of words out before completely stuttering and not wanting to talk anymore. This made it so I didn't want to read out loud infront of people because I would get embarrassed about my speech problem. I was enrolled in speech therepy until 6th grade and was able to overcome a difficult situation that was holding me back academically. I still stutter today, but only occasionaly
  • Summer Reading

My mom made a reading program over summer where my brother and I would read books to earn points and with these points we could use them to rent video games, go to the water park, or just have some snacks. I got the chance to read a lot over that summer.

    Yearbook

For my senior year I took yearbook for my English class and really enjoyed the different form of literacy that it brought. I liked the merge of media, literacy, and design This class allowed me to see another wrinkle of literacy that I enjoyed.
  • Freedom Writers

I saw the move "Freedom Writers" and after seeing it started contemplating becoming an English teacher. I really enjoyed the impact that reading and writing can have in someone's life. I thought that English would be the best way to help influence students life which was something I wanted to do. The other subjects didn't seem to have that same valor, but with the materials I would choose to read it could impact a students life and change them for the better.

I have worked for Clovis Unified for the past five years in Special Education and have enjoyed teaching reading and writing the most out of the other subjects. I have had the chance to teach math, science, history, social skills, etc. yet I enjoy the creativity that I was able to get the students I worked with to create while they were writing.
  • Harry Potter

My mother got me the entire Harry Potter series for Christmas. Before her getting me this series I had maybe read a handful of books in the past 5 years of my life, but for some reason I got excited and read them all. Next thing I knew I was going to Barnes and Noble looking for books to read. From going to not reading, to reading 2-3 books a month was a fun transition in my life.

    Accounting

When I transfered to Fresno State I was debating what major to follow. I originally chose English Enducation, but later switched to accounting to follow my brother's career path. After a year of classes I decided it wasn't for me and chose to go back with my first choice to someday teach English.
