Gary was only twelve when he met Dirk. He was the prime target of the "gangs" that wandered the streets. He was working at a bowling alley when he was coming home with a hamburger. Dirk growled at him, so he gave some to him for a decoy. Little did he know, that he had just befriended a bodyguard.

Happy appeared out of nowhere to attack Gary, but Dirk quickly rushed in to save the day. He scared off Happy and his gang before he was rewarded by Gary with the other half of the hamburger.

Dirk was very protective of Gary. He waited for him at school, and he waited for him to finish his job at the bowling alley. He always kept a close eye on Gary.

This event was important, because when snowball and Gary were walking the trail, Gary was barefoot which was a big mistake. While they were walking there was a poisionis snake beside Gary that was about to bite him. But out of nowhere snowball came bit the snakes head off, and saved Garys life.

Gary was running a five mile line, trapping a beaver. Cookie was his lead dog, and he was in the first Iditarod sled dog race, Cookie had taken Gary from Anchorage to Nome, Alaskka in the race.

Gary starts to set up his stuff when he decides to walk on the ice stepped on ice.But as he takes his first steps on the ice, he sunddenly falls through the ice! His lead dog cookie acted fast and pulled on a rope that went with Gary. Gary pulled on the rope and climbed out of the icey lake. Cookie had saved Gary.
