  • Butler Act

    Free compulsory education to the age of 15. Free education to age 18.

  • O-Levels and A-Levels are Introduced for Grammar School Students

    These exams replace the School Certificate and Higher School Certificate.

  • Labour Government of the Time Promise to Set Up Comprehensive Schools

    Harold Wilson and his government promise to set up Comprehensive Schools which are made up of pupils of all abilities in one school that was open to a specific area.

  • CSE Examinations are Introduced for Students not Taking O-Levels

  • School Leaving Age is Raised to 16

  • Health & Safety Act

  • GCSE Exams Replace GCE O-Level and CSE Exams

  • Ban on Corporal Punishment in State Schools

  • Standard Assessment Tests are Introduced for Pupils Aged 7 Years Old

  • A* grade is added to GCSE Exams
