Once arriving in Egypt Harry succumbed to a number of the prevalent illnesses in the camps which called for admission to hospitals in Cairo and Bilharziosis, firstly Gastritis followed by Influenza and these hospital admissions would delay his being taken on strength with his unit.

the regiment was at Marakeb um Urgan undertaking night patrols amongst the heavy shelling and very heavy fog Harry reported as sick. He became very ill quite quickly with septic sores and following admission to Cairo hospital he was ordered to the rest camp at Port Said for two weeks recovery.

Harry rejoined the 5th LHR stationed in the vicinity of Karzan and Eaani and served again with the regiment until being sent to the School of Instruction at Zeitoun, Training as a Batman.

He was classed as dangerously ill with a fever and abscesses on his face. He was evacuated via 66th Casualty Clearing Station to Gaza and later to 31st General Hospital at Abbassia where he remained as seriously ill for an extended period.

Harry James Walker died at age 79, he is buried at Gympie Cemetery.
