  • Birth

    Son of John and Elizabeth Dickens in Portsmouth England.

  • Put to work at Warren's Blacking Factory

    After his father is arrested for inability to pay bills. To support his family he goes to work, this is undoubtedly a black smudge on the life of Dickens. It did however shape his character and provide inspiritation for future works written with this memory in mind.

  • Drops out of school and becomes a journalist.

    By this time in his life he has discovered his love for writing.

  • Marriage to Catherine Hogarth

  • Writing Career Begins

    First writing as a journalist, he worked under the pseudonymn "Boz", he also wrote the Pickwick Papers and began Oliver Twist.

  • The Chirstmas Carol is written

    His famous Christmas novel.

  • Dombey and Son begins its run

    A novel written in sequences

  • David Copperfield is written

  • Bleak House finishes

    One of his books to be written in sequences, one chapter or scene per week.

    They start in this year and will continue (mostly in London) until the very day that he dies.
