    Dl Moody Was Born
    He was born to a poor family of nine in Massachusetts. His dad died suddenly leaving the family very poor. He claims that the family's lack of resources is what strengthened his faith in God.

    Moody Leaves the farm
    Moody takes a train to Boston. He took a job as a salesman and thrived. Money became his most important goal at this time in his life. A Sunday school teacher felt compelled by the lord to go talk to Moody. Later that day in the back of a shoe store Moody gave his life to the Lord.
  • Moody Headed West

    Moody Headed West
    By the summer of 1856, Moody went out west to seek fortune in Chicago as well as share the Lord. As Moody grew closer to Christ he felt drawn to the outcasts of society. He would then bribe these people with change such as quarters to come to his bible study to spread the Word. It wasn't long after this he would start his own Sunday School in a nearby Saloon.

    Moody had very different ways of teaching and they seemed to work very well. By the summer of 1860, his attendance grew to 1500 people. Abe Lincoln heard wind of this and visited to see what his program was all about. At the same time, Moody's love for the Lord was so strong that he quit his job to dedicate his full life to teaching people about God.

    The Civil War brought Moody face to face with the pain and suffering. In nine trips to the Front Lines, Moody brought comfort to the dying.

    After the war, Moody and his new Bride Emma return to a flourishing ministry in Chicago. Moody felt God leading to start a church. The Illinois Street Church was his first establishment. At a time when people had to pay for seats, Moody made his church 100% free.

    Ignoring the sound of the fire bell Moody Preached a profound message. But when he left the service that night he saw the flames that would kill many of the souls he had yet to reach. Moody and Emma lost everything that night.

    In the years following the fire, Dwight would travel the United States as well as the globe preaching to many about the Lord. He would move great crowds with his teaching style. Thousands of people would commit their lives to Jesus Christ.
  • Moody Moves Back home

    Moody Moves Back home
    He moved his family to Massachusetts into the farmhouse that he grew up in. Here he felt God speaking to him about training and equipping a new generation of evangelists. After a massive fundraiser, he launched two schools first Northville Seminary for Girls then Mt Hermans School for boys. he would go on to call this the best work he had ever done.

    Back in Chicago Moody established the school known as the Moody Bible Institute.

    A Great Revival
    At the 1893 Worlds Fair in Chicago Moody and his students lead a revival that touched nearly 2 million lives. He did this by putting into practice shoe leather evangelism which is what his institute was known for.

    Moody Dies in the winter of 1899. People still say he lives on after the great impact he made on so many people.
  • Where are they today

    Where are they today
    Moody Church still exists in Chicago. The church today has around 3000 active members and they meet in the building known as the Moody Memorial Church which was built from 1924-to 1925.
