    Dred Soctt Decision
    Dred Scott lived in a free state and moved back to a slave state. He appealed his freedom to the United States Justice. This was known as the Dred Scott v. Sanford case.
  • Lincoln Assasination

    Lincoln Assasination
    President Abraham Lincoln was shot on April 15 of 1865 while attending a comedy called "Our American Cousin". John Wikes booth was the assin and stepped into the presidential box while the comedy was in progress. Booth then jumped from the balcony.
  • Social Security

    Social Security began in 1930 during the Great Depression when over 50% of individuals over the age of 65 were in poverty. Social Security Act went into play to help guard citizens from old age, unemployment, poverty, ect. Social Security is funded through dedicated Payroll Taxes and is the largest government program in the world. Social Security is currently keeping 40% of people age 65 and older out of poverty.

    Brown V Board of Education is a supreme court case in which was brought about in Topeka, KS. The argument was that the segregation of schools was not right and not constitutional. Brown V BOE played a major part in the Civil Rights Movement.
  • Medicare

    Medicare
    Medicare is a national insurance program that first began in 1965.This gives access to health insurance for individuals over the age of 65 or younger individuals if the needs are met. In 2010 medicare provided health insurance to over 48 million Americans. 40 million of these people were over the age of 65 while the other 8 million were younger but suffering with disabilitites.
  • Civil Rights Act 1965

    The Voting Rights Act of 1965 changed the discriminatory voting practices that had been going on. The Act denies any State from saying, "voting qualification or prerequisite to voting, or standard, practice, or procedure ... to deny or abridge the right of any citizen of the United States to vote on account of race or color." This act was signed by President Johnson. Congress ended up voting to extend the Act for another 25 years as of 2006.
  • Watergate Affair

    Burgalars were arrested on June 17 of 1972 in the Democratic National Comittee. This was located in the Watergate building.These burglars were in connection to Richard Nixon's reelection comittee but were caught when taping into phonelines. President Nixon went on to help raise money to get the FBI off there case therefore looking guilty as to knowing about it ahead of time.
  • Reagan Speech

    On June 12 or 1987 President Ronald Reagan gave a speech on the 750th anniversary of the Berlin Wall. In this speech he adresses towards the Soviet Union Mikhail Gorbachev, saying to "Tear Down this Wall!".

    On December 19 of 1998 President Bill Clinton was impeached. He was impeached by the House of Representatives on two accounts: Perjury and Obstruction of Justice. The president was impeached because of the Paula Jones incident along with the Lewsinsky Scandal.

    9/11 was a combination of four suicide attacks onto United States ground...New York and Washington DC. These individuals were members of al-Queda a millitant group whom hijacked jet planes earlier that morning. Two of these planes striked the World Trade Center.
