  • the first telephone

    In the 1870s, two inventors Elisha Gray and Alexander Graham Bell both designed devices that could transmit speech electrically (the telephone)by themselvs. Both men rushed their designs to a patent office by hours of each other, Alexander Graham Bell patented his telephone first. Elisha Gray and Alexander Graham Bell entered into a famous legal battle over the invention of the telephone, which Bell won.
  • the first gas-powered car

    Karl Friedrich Benz created the first car that ran on gas in 1885. you could trace automobiles back to the 15th century, when leonardo DaVinci was designing means of transportation.

    Great Migration

    The Great Migration was when 2 million African-Americans migrated from the south to the north in the US. They did this to escape the racism in the south. They had problems tho, they would try to find any open jobs but were still discriminated against. During this time, WW11 was happening
  • the first workig television

    the "tv" can be traced back all the way to 1873, but it wasnt until 1907 that the design made by Willoughby Smith was edited, and made practical by Lee DeForest and Arthur Korn. In 1911, Boris Rosing and his student Vladimir Zworykin created the first working television system.
  • 18th Amendment

    The 18th Amendment was a law that illegalized liquor in the United States. This was done trying to provent crime, but the consequence was that people were stealing liquor, and doing it very sneeky and orginized.
  • 19th Amendment

    The 19th Amendment was when the women wanted to vote for our country. The first state to allow the voting was Wyoming. Susan B Anthony was the leader of pushing womans' rights. Although Woodrow Wilson was against Womans' rights, he passed the Amendment.
  • Emergency Quota Act

    the Emergency Qouta Act was when we limited the people coming into the U.S. by only 3% of the race already living in the country. They did this as a solution to terrorism, and it relfected the racist aditude at this time.
  • Immigration Act of 1924

    This limited the immigration to the U.S. to barely 2% of that race already living here. For example, for every 100 chineese living here, only 2 would be able to come. This was in response to the end of the Emergency Quota Act.
  • Black Tuesday

    Black Tuesday was the first day the stock market began to fail. The stock market lost 12 million dollars. Hoover is concerned, but does nothing to help, claiming that if it crashes then just let it happen.
  • Black thursday

    The stock market looses more value than anyday in history, about 13 million. This is considered the start of the great depression. Hoover was largely blamed for all of this.
  • F.D.R. elected president

    He was elected to become president to save the citizens from the depression. He initiated "The New Deal", wich was programs to help people find jobs, and houses, and basically, just to survive. He was president when WW11 started.
  • State of the Economy

    The lowest point for the U.S., all the money is gone, There was a 25% unemployment rate, large citizen debt, and untrustworthy banks, because they made poor dicisions on loans. So the banks closed, wich means noone had money except the rich wich also caused a big gap between the poor and rich.
  • The Hoover Dam opens

    A Public Work project took 5,000 workers to complete. The Dam supplied electricity to Los Angeles and Las Vegas. The dam was the world biggest, at the time, and the unemployment rate dropped to 15%

    New deal program helps Veterans to adapt to poular culture. the benifits from that were low mortgages, low cost loans to start businesses or farms, paid education, and unemployment pay. After the war, 2.2 million soldiers went back to school
