World Trade Center Bombing
A truck bomb was put under the North Tower of the World Trade Center which was suppose to knock the North Tower into the South Tower, bringing both towers down & killing tens of thousands of people. The bomb failed but did kill 3 people and injured over a thousand. The attack was planned by a group of Muslim terrorists. The reason for the attack was b/c, they made 3 demands: an end to all US aid to Israel, an end to US diplomatic relations with Israel, and a pledge by the US to end interferance. -
Cave of the Patriarchs massacre (Hebron's Massacre)
An American born Israeli, Baruch Goldstein, member of Israeli Kach movement opened fired on unarmed Palestinians Muslims praying inside in a Mosque. The attack left 29 male worshippers dead and 125 wounded. Kahane, a Jewish militant, was assassinated in 1990 by Arab militant El Sayyid Nosair, and Goldstein swore to take revenge for the killing. -
Attack on Tokyo Subway
Aum Shirinkyo, a Japanese terrorist organization, released sarin on several lines of the Tokyo subway, killing thirteen people, severely injuring fifty and causing temporary vision problems for nearly a thousand others. The attack was directed against trains passing through Kasumigaseki and Nagatachō, home to the Japanese government. It is the most serious attack to occur in Japan since the end of World War II. -
RUF Militant Kidnappings
Revolutionary United Front (RUF) militants kidnap at least 20 members of the United Nations Assistance Mission (UNAMSIL) in Sierra Leone and surround and open fire on thei facility. The militants killed five U.N. soldiers in this attack. The United Nations also helped the Government stop illicit trading in diamonds and regulate the industry. During the war, rebels had used money from “blood” or “conflict” diamonds to buy weapons which had fuelled the conflict. -
9/11 Attack
Al Qaeda suicide attackers hijacked and crashed 4 commercial jets. Two in the World Trade Center in New York City and one in the Pentagon in Washington D.C, the fourth jet was set to hit the Capitol, but landed in a field in Pennsylvania. About 3,000 innocent civilians were killed. They also want to drive out the U.S. from Muslim lands. They believe American influence is one of the biggest impediments to the establishment of non-Islamic governments. -
Anthrax Attacks
Tuesday, September 18, 2001, one week after the September 11 attacks. Letters containing anthrax spores were mailed to several news media offices and two Democratic U.S. Senators, killing five people and infecting 17 others. According to the FBI, the ensuing investigation became "one of the largest and most complex in the history of law enforcement" -
Suicide bomber attack
Three suicide bombers attack bombed tourist restaurants in Bali, killing 26 and wounding more than 100. Officials initially blamed unnamed terrorists, who are suspected to have been schooled by the Philippines-based terror group Abu Sayyaf, for the attack. Later, it was determined that Azahari bin Husin, JI bomb maker is responsible. -
Boston Marathon Bombing
Two bombs went off near the finish line of the Boston Marathon killed 3 people and injured more than 180. Dzhokar Tsarnaev and his older brother Tamerlan Tsarnaev were identified as the main suspects. The two brothers are also suspected of the fatal shooting of a police officer in Cambridge. The brothers are believed to have ties to Russian extremist groups.
