At the beginning of this book, Katniss Everdeen (along with a few others) go back to District 12 to Katniss' old home since District 12 was bombed. Katniss manages to take 3 things from her home for her and her family. She also notices a white rose but realizes it's a threat from President Snow. Katniss and Gale soon return to District 13 underground and watch a broadcast of an interview of Peeta Mellark with Ceaser Flickerman and Katniss is relieved to know the Peeta is alive. -

Katniss soon finds out that her prep team was beaten so her mother takes care of them. She makes an agreement with Coin but she has to be the mockingjay. Since Katniss had agreed to this deal, it means she and Gale have to travel with Coin and her crew to do interviews commercials in different places. One of the interview spots is a hospital and it soon gets bombed afterwards. So they do another interview on camera and Katniss speaks from her heart about how she feels about all thats happening. -

After the bombing, Katniss watches the interview and sees that the capitol intercut her speech to make it look like she was angry about the bombing. All is going bad for Katniss since the capitol is hurting her and everyone/everything she loves. It is even causing her friendship will Gale to fall apart. She also finds out that Peeta is being badly beaten behind cameras. But she learns that the capitol is planning and assault to District 13. Katniss and her family are preparing for this warning. -

Katniss talks with Finnick and finds out truths about him and that President Snow is actually a murderer. When the crew comes back with Peeta, they find out he has been brainwashed and he tries to kill Katniss. But Katniss soon tells the crew that there is a place where the capitol keeps their weapons so they're going to attack it. When they do, Katniss comvinces everyone there to stand with them and fight against the capitol, but then Katniss gets shot. -

Soon there is a wedding and Katniss finds out that Peeta is doing much better. In order for Katniss to fight against the capitol, she has to go through training even though shes in pain and she does and they accept her into Command. Then, Katniss realizes that Coin may want her dead. Katniss suspects that she cannot trust very many people and then a big battle starts with bombs going off and people dying. She realizes that her and the rest of Command have to kill President Snow to stop it all. -

As soon as they all decide on a plan, the war with the capitol is about to begin and so start it all off, there is another bombing that is supposedly from District 13 and so Katniss is upset with Gale because she thinks he is part of it. Katniss then decides she is done with everything and that she wants to commit suicide so she was going to use a pill she was given, but Gale crushes it. When the bombing happens, Prim (Katniss' little sister) dies from the tragedy and the battle going on. -

Towards the end of the book, Katniss and everyone else win the battle against the capitol and Katniss ends up killing Coin and President Snow. Later on, her and Peeta do end up getting married and they have kids.
