  • Babysitting began reading books to me.

My mom said from the time when I was two months old my babysitter, Nan Nan as I called her, read to me every day. That is probably the first time I was ever introduced to books.
  • Mom reading to me.

    Mom reading to me.
I remember my mom reading to me a lot. She said that she read to me as a baby before I could remember too. I had many books as a child.
  • Mom's Favorite book to read to me.

Mom's Favorite book to read to me.
My mom loved reading "Mama, Do You Love Me?" to me. I still love that book!
  • Richard Scarry books.

    Richard Scarry books.
I remember my mom reading a lot of Richard Scurry books with me. Mostly I remember the illustrations and that little worm! She said that the first books that my grandma read to her were Richard Scarry so that is why they were some of the first books she bought for me.
  • Rainbow Fish!

    Rainbow Fish!
I remember loving the Rainbow Fish book! I had the stuffed animal fish and other types of toys that went along with the book.
  • Elementary UIL - 1st and 2nd grade

    Elementary UIL - 1st and 2nd grade
I think it was first grade that I was introduced to UIL. I was on the writing team and one of the most fun practice writing topics that we were given was to find a rock and write a story about it, I loved being in UIL.
  • 2nd grade-Rainforest Project

    2nd grade-Rainforest Project
I loved second grade! I can remember doing a lot of research and reading for a project about jungles and rain forests; we had to make t-shirts showing or telling people support our causes to save the forests.
  • Accellerated Reader Program

    Accellerated Reader Program
I absolutely loved accelerated reader! I always wanted to have the most points and I loved getting to take the tests on the computer. In elementary school, there was like a timeline of points and I was always hundreds of points ahead of everyone else. I think I saw it as a challenge to get to the next set of points in the hallway.
  • Waiting for National Geographics in the mail.

Waiting for National Geographics in the mail.
When I started to enjoy reading more, my grandparent's ordered me a subscription to National Geographic magazines. I loved whenever they would come in the mail. I would mostly just look at the pictures, but when I found pictures I liked I would start reading the articles or at least parts of them.
  • 4th grade

4th grade was a big year for me. I loved school and I loved my teacher!
  • Roald Dahl came into my life!

Roald Dahl came into my life!
I loved and still love Roald Dahl books. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has always been one of my favorite movies and when I dsicovered who wrote the story, I decided to read some of his books. I loved the crazy stories. I bet that I have read most of the books he has published.
  • UIL Intermediate/Middle School

    UIL Intermediate/Middle School
I kept participating in UIL up to about 8th grade and one of the team I was on was the Listening Team. I was really good at this and still am pretty good at taking notes to this day. I would write my notes in a spiral shape, starting on the outer edges of my paper and write until I got to the middle. I figured that this way I could keep track of the order of events better so that when a question asked what came first, it was easy for me to know.
  • High School English

My freshman year I enjoyed my English class and goofy teacher. Sophomore year kind of changed my perspective; I started to hate going to English class and the books that we had to read. I played a lot of sports in high school, so I didn't have much time to begin with, but I loathed taking time to read books that I disliked. It seemed like it took forever to get through one chapter!
  • High School English - Hobbit

    High School English - Hobbit
I began to not like reading as much once I got into high school. Mostly because I didn't enjoy the books that were chosen for me to read. The Hobbit is one that I remember having to read in my Pre AP English class my junior year that I did not enjoy.
  • The last book I read..

    The last book I read..
The last book I read on my own was The Wild Girl by Jim Fergus. I like to read during my free time, but with working and going to school there is not much free time availible!
