    The Butler Act 1944 received Royal Assent. Secondary education for all was at last a reality. see BBC News school Report
  • 1959 Crowther Report

    Aims
    A fairer deal for less able.
    Changes in exams.
    Entice the best educated and most suitable into sixth form teaching.
    More technical schools and more teachers to achieve the aims.
  • 1962 Certificate of Secondary Education

    CSE came into being so students of all abilities would sit exams and have some results to show of their time in education.
  • 1971 Decimalisation

    The change from "Old Money" pounds shillings and pence to decimals. One day we had 12 pennies to the shilling and 20 shillings to the pound. The very next day the pound was made up of 100 new pence.

    At the age of four and a half I started my formal education at Castlecroft County Primary School. I'm pleased to say the school is still a school.
  • Margaret Thatcher Education Secretary

    In November 1973 Margaret Thatcher set up a committee to review Educational provision for children and young people with disabilities. The results of this directly affected the schools I attended and were partly responsible fro a change in my whole outlook on life. See condensed version of the Warnock Report
  • 1975 Sex Discrimination Act

    In educational terms this meant there was a need to dispel educational practices which supported sex‐stereotypes. This mainly affected subject such as metal work and home economics they had to be offered to girls and boys.

    Although I passed the eleven plus exam and had the option of going to the Girls High school my friends were all going to Smestow and my parents barely seemed to notice so I went to Smestow

    I went to Wulfrun college of Further Education to do my A Levels the experience of the lying French teacher had put me right off school.

    By this time I was married with a daughter. I continued my Education at Wulfrun college predominantly Accounting and computing.

    I was very pleased with my distinction in word processing.

    At the grand age of 47 I started a degree course at the University of Wolverhampton. I achieved a First class degree with Honours the celebrations were immense.
