Ellis is rewarded for all his service to the University. Although he initally only accepts the position until a replacement can be found, he is eventually talked into becoming the perminent president. His time as president is one of productivity and success for MU. Under his guidance, MU became a four-campus institution, adding branches in Kansas City and St. Louis. The campus library (Ellis library) is named after him.
