In 1875 September 22 Mikalojus Konstantinas Ciurlionis was born in Varena, in the family of organist Konstantinas Ciurlionis and Adele Marija Magdalena Ciurlioniene. He was the oldest of nine children of the Ciurlioniu family.

1894-1899 Ciurlionis studied at the Warsaw Music Institute.

In addition to his specialty, Ciurlionis also studied theory and history, harmony, attended a choir class, studied natural sciences, astronomy, philosophy, numismatics, and mineralogy.

in 1900 he composed a symphonic poem "In the Forest", dedicated to his friend E. Morawski. With this work he participated in the competition announced by Count M. Zamoyskis and won a special award from the jury.

An exhibition of Ciurlionis' works was organized at the school. It shows a cycle of 10 paintings "Fantasies".

Ciurlionis lived in Druskininkai and harmonized Lithuanian folk songs. In a letter to Povilas, he wrote that he had decided to "dedicate all his past and future works to Lithuania". At that time, the idea to create a Lithuanian opera arose.
