    The swimming legend we all know today as Michael Phelps was born on June 30th 1985. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland and his parents names were Fred and Debbie Phelps. He was th youngest of three children he had two older sisters named Whitney and Hilary.

    Michael Phelps grew up in the small town of Rodgers Forge in Baltimore, Maryland. He lived in Rodgers Forge for about 17 years of his life. He would often get bullied as a kid but always had his older sisters Whitney and Hilary to watch over him.

    Michael Phelps's reasoning or influence to become a proffesional swimmer in the United States Olympic swim team was Mark Spitz. Mark Spitz was basically the older Michael Phelps of the 1970's-1980's. Phelps would always watch on the television Spitz swimming in the Olympics for the United States.

    Fred and Debbie Phelps were getting tired of each other and got into a big fight that let to a divorce. Mchael was only nine years old at the time so he didn't fully understand what was happening. The two older sisters Whitney and Hilary were about 14-15 so they understood what was going on.

    Michael Phelps's parents Fred and Debbie Phelps got a divorce when Michael was about nine years old. All of the Phelps children (Whitney,Hilary,and Michael) went with Debbie because Fred was so mad at his wife that he didn't want to deal with their kids.

    When Michael Phelps was only ten years old he set his first swimming record. With training from Bob Bowman for about three years Michael was ready to take a break from training and start to compete in swimming competitions.

    Michael's two older sisiters Whitney and Hilary were both also proffesional swimmers. Whitney tried out to be on the United States Olympics swim team. But due to an injury Whitney had to quit swimming proffesionally and HIlary stopped later on after that.

    Michael Phelps's older sisiter Whitney Phelps wanted to try out for the United States Olympics swimming team but her injury prevented her from doing it. Whitney was extremely proud of Michael when she heard that he was going to try out for the spot on the swimming team.

    Michael Phelps's very first Summer Olympic games were taking place in Sydney, Australia in the year 2000. He was only fifteen years old at the time but did recieve quite a few medals. He was one of the youngest male swimmers there. MIchael finished fifth in the 200-meter butterfly.

    In 2001 at Fukuoka, Japan Michael broke his own record in the 200-meter fly. His new time in the 200-meter fly was 1:54:58 a sagnificant improvement in his time than what he got in the last 200-meter fly. Plus he was older so he may have had more expierience.

    As in most sports you need to have good grades in order to stay on the team. Well that is just what Michael had to do to stay in the Olympics. He went to Townson High school to get his education for the Olympics.

    At the 2008 summer olympics in Beijing, China Michael Phelps won eight gold medals for swimming. Michael got gold medals in the 100-meter fbutterly, the 200-meter butterfly, the 400-meter individual medley, and the 200-meter freestyle.

    Michael Phelps is currently going to college at the University of Michigan and is taking a break from swimming to get a good education to move on in the world. He is also considering to quit swimming and start to golf.
