Namban meant “southern barbarian” in which the Japanese were referring to the Portuguese traders who they had encountered, shipwrecked on Tanegashima Isle. Since then they had traded various items for Japanese silver and gold, but most importantly introduced European firearms which dramatically changed the future of Japan.

Aspects of the feudal system had already existed for hundreds of years but in 800CE it became more structured and clearer by William the Conqueror after his victory of the Battle of Hastings. He divided the land and gave it to those who had fought for him and then so on.
