  • The Inspection

    On all canned food it was stated that "The contents of this package has been inspected according to the act of Congress of March 3, 1891." On this day Congress inspected what was in the canned food products which gives the factories rights to sell their product.
  • Big Four Companies Go On Strike

    Meat-packers went on strike demanding better wages and working conditions in Chicago. Meat-packers believes that going on strike would then make industrialist notice the low wages and horrible conditions of the factories.
  • Undercover Worker

    Uptown Sinclair disguised himself as a worker and spent seven weeks in a slaughter house. Uptown Sinclair really wanted to see the conditions the wrokers were in and how the meat was produced
  • The Jungle

    Uptown Sinclair published his novel "The Jungle" which descridedin great detail the meat packaging industry. Uptown Sinclair wanted to bring awareness to society of the dangerous conditions of the meatpacking industry.
  • The Meat Inspection Act

    Congress passed the Meat Inspection Act which helped establish health standards for the meatpacking industry. Passing this law made sure the meat was sanitized and healthy.
  • The Pure Food and Drug Act

    Congress passed the Pure Food and Drug Act which required and manufactures to use safe ingredients in their products. Passing this law brought safety to society because now have this act would force and make sure the manufactures use safe ingridients in the meat.
  • The Triangle Shirt Waist Factory Fire

    This factory fire brought awareness to legislators and politicians of how bad these factories and companies really were.
  • Adamson Act

    Wilson passed two acts regulating labor: Adamson Act, establishing eight hour work day for railroad employees. Passing this law only helped railroad employees but wasn't helpful to those who didn't work in the railroad industry.
  • Workingmen's Compensation Act

    Wilson also passed the Workingmen's Compensation, providing governement financial assistance to federal employees injured on the job. This helped a lot because before this law nobody really cared if a worker got injured they would've still had to report to work the next day but now passing this law will give the workers time to heal and would give them something to lean on when they need help.
