Early American Literature
-The Native Americans believed in oral traditions. In other words they believed if you wrote it down you did not have to remember it.
-Most of this early literature comes from diaries, letters, journals, logs and historical narritives
-Puritans believed that writings were a tool to help readers understand the Bible.
-Revolutionary writers wrote mainly on matters of the government. -

-Puritans were groups of English protestants who has sought to "purify" the Church of Enlgand.
-the blieved humans were natural sinners and blieved the "elect" would be spared from enternal punishment.
-the puritans were intolerant of other religions, such as the salem witch trial incident. -
Early American writiings
-in letters, diaries, and reports back to home explorers recorded hostory.
-Jamestwon was the first established colony in America in 1607.
- Because colonist supported England, wiht exporting raw materials, Britan sent soldiers to help fight the French and Indian War.
-when Britan later tried to tax the colonies, the fought and won their independance. Then they created to Decloration or Independance and the Constitution. -
Ideas of the age
- Enlightment has taken place in Europe. This caused thinkers to question perivious accepted truths. -Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Paine. and Thomas Jefferson's writing shaped the American Enlightment and gave the colonist a foot to the revolution.
- With both of these things happening it caused the colonies to break away from Britan and embrace democracy.
