    The battle of Fort Sumter lasted from April 12 to April 14. The end of the battle of Fort Sumter came after 34 hours of shelling. The Confederates won the battle because of the mass distruction of the fort.

    First Battle Bull Run
    The First Battle of Bull Run lasted from July 21 to July 22 in 1861. The battle cost the Union 3,000 troops but only 1,750 troops for the Confederacy. The Confederates would have destroyed the Union troops but were to dis-organized.
  • Hampton Roads

    Hampton Roads
    The battle of Hampton Roads lasted from March 9 to May 9 in 1862. It was the first naval battle of the Civil War and Had new battleships armoured with iron plates. The Union ended up destroying the Confederate ship and winning the battle.
  • Vicksburg

    Vicksburg
    The seige of Vicksburg lasted from the spring of 1862 to July 1863. This was a year long seige of the South's stronghold in Vicksburg, Mississippi to take control of the Mississippi. It was a very slow progress because the North took maybe one hill every month.
  • Shiloh

    The battle of Shiloh lasted from April 6 to April 7 in 1862. The battle was a suprise attack on Union soldiers. Both sides ended up losing a total of 23,000 troops and the battle ended up in a draw.

    The lasted from September 17 to September 18 1862. The first battle fought on northern soil and the battle turned out to be a draw even though the south retreated. This battle helped Lincoln announce a Proclamation for the political battle.

    The battle of Fredericksburg lasted from December 11 to December 13 1862. This battle was a major lose for the Union because there new, great general lost a lot of troops. Most people blamed Lincoln for the defeat because he pushed the general into attacking but the general took full responsiblity.
  • Chancellorsville

    The battle of Chancellorsville lasted from April 30 to May 6 in 1863. This battle was considered one of the greatest victories of General Lee. He faced a General that was known as one of the the best in the Union. He also faced a force twice the size of his army at the time of the battle.
  • Gettysburg

    The battle lasted from July 1 to July 3 1863. The batle turned out to be a crushing blow for the Confederates and a massive win for the Union. The Confederates lost 28,000 troops and the Union only lost 23,000 troops. Lee thought that the Union was going to continue the attack on July 4 but it never came so he retreated.

    The battle of Chickamauga lasted from September 19 to September 20 1863. This was on the of the worst battles for the Confederates becasue 7 of there generals were killed or wounded. In all the Union won the battle only losing 16,00 troops but the Confederates lost 20,000 troops. This was one of the costliest battles of the western war.

    The battle of wilderness lasted from May 5 to May 7 in 1864. The battle was what lead to the battle of Spotsylvania. In the battle of Wilderness the Confderates had heavy losses but Lee did not want to back down from the new general. They ended up being pushed back to where the battle of Spotsylvania would take place and then that battle happened as well.

    The battle of Spotsylvania lasted from May 8 to May 21 in 1864. This battle was considered a stalemate because neither side seemed to win over the other. Each engagement that took place either resulted in a victory on one side, but then a victory in a counterattack for the other side. Eventually troops on both sides were pulled out and took fighting somewhere else.
  • Sherman's Charge

    Sherman's Charge
    Sherman's Charge lasted from September 2 to December 21 in 1864. Sherman's Charge was a huge battalion of Union soldiers marching through Georgia and burining everything in there path. Sherman's Charge was very bad in the beginning when Confederate troops tried to stop them, but soon they saw there was noting they could do. After a little skermish that lost the Confederate over 200 troops there was no more fighting, and Confederates burned everything in Sherman's path so they couldn't have it
  • Lincoln's assasination(end of the war)

    This was the end of the war and at 10:15 April 14, John Booth snuck in Lincolns private box. He shot Lincoln rate in the back of the head with a .44 caliber pistol killing him. Lincoln died later that day ending the Civil War between North and South.
