    The crisis at this stage is between being allowed the be independent and develop confidence vs being over managed and unable to develop a sense of self-confidence and independence.

    Industry vs Inferiority
    At school, she gets to paint during class. Violet find that she enjoys the activity a lot, when she shows it to her teacher, he encourages her and praises her work. Her parents sign her up for art lessons. Because her teacher encouraged her interest, Violet is motivated to continue to paint and take pride in her art. The crisis is between being encouraged by teachers and peers and developing a sense of pride in one's self vs. being discouraged and lacking the self-esteem and motivation.
  • Intimacy vs Isolation

    Intimacy vs Isolation
    Violet goes out to dinner with one of her close friends from college. Although her friend is now married with two children, living very different life, they are still good friends. While Violet does not have a partner, she is not lonely or unhappy. She several very close friends who she sees regularly who she is able to talk to. The crisis is between having established good relationships that make you feel loved and worthy, vs. lacking those relationships, and feeling alone and isolated.
