  • leaving for California

    in 1864 Sam left to go to California. Shortly after moving Sam got a job at the Sacramento Union.

    While working for the Sacramento Union he made a lecture about Hawaii after he made a trip there. About a year after that Sam traveled to new York but on the way he made some time for some lectures in the mid West.

    In 1868 he got his first contract for a book. The name of the book was The Innocents Abroad which came out a year later.

    Sam Engaged to Olivia Louise on February 4, after a year of marriage the had a son who died in infancy (in 1872). after the death of the child they had another kid and her name was Susy (march 19 1872). Another two years past they had another child named Clara (June 6 1874). There last child was named Jean (july 26 1880).
  • His Invention

    In 1873 he got a patent for a self pasting scrapbook, the money he made off of this went towards the making of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer which was published in 1876.
  • Mississippi from New Orleans

    Sam made a trip from Mississippi to New Orleans to help refresh his memory to help make the book called Life on the Mississippi Which was published in 1883
  • Unsettling times for the Clemens

    The Clemens Publishing firm was facing bankruptcy following the Panic of 1893. This lead Sam to travel for twelve months to help pay off the the debts. In 1897 he was able to pay off all of his debts.
  • Tragic Times

    On august 18 1896 his daughter died of meningitis. his wife dies in 1904.
  • Samuel L.Clemens Death

    On April 21 he dies of complications and is buried in his wife's family plot.
