    Growing up

    Maria Theresa grew up in Hofburg in Austria.At the age of 18 she was educated very well and came to be an intelligent young women. Maria was the eldest of her siblings and set a good impression for her younger siblings (Trease 126).

    The War Of Austrian Succession

    Charles VI created a document, The Pragmatic Sanction, which allowed females to rule Austria because the lack of males left. When he died, Maria Theresa became Austrias ruler. Austria was beginning to go down hill. Fredrick II invaded Austria soon after Charles death, all of Maria's advisors told her to surrender. Maria did not give up and soon other countries became involved, which created the War of Austrian Succession. Maria tried her hardest but finally surrendered in 1748 (Roider).

    Maria Theresa was crowned Queen of Hungary. The process to be crowned was very long. In the capitalof Hungary, she was given and iron crown, a sheild and road a black stallion to Royal Mount.At this point, Maria drew for the sword of Stephen (Farmer 103).

    In 1742, a cotton factory was made in Birmingham, England. It was named "The Upper Priory Cotton Mill". This cotton mill was the first ever in the world (Grun).

    Andreas Sigismund Marggraf was a German chemist from Berlin. In 1747 Andreas discovered suger in beetroot. He alsocame up with a method for it (Grun).

    By 1748, Maria Theresa regained all of the inheritance her father left for her to take except Silesia, Piacenza and Parma. Maria Theresa accomplished this at a very young age. She deserved the title "Mother of Her People" (Farmer 107).

  • Death of Maria's Husband

    Maria Theresa's husband ,Francis dies. Maria was very upset because they were in love. Maria Theresa had 5 sons and 11 daughters. 6 of her children died early in life. Her oldest son, Joseph became coregent with his mother as Emeperor Joseph II (Farmer 106).

    A couple years after her husband dies, Maria Theresa was diagnosed with small pox. The disease killed 3 of her daughters and 2 of her daught-in-laws. The disease also scared 3 of her other daughters (Farmer 107).
  • Maria Theresa's Death

    Maria Theresa died on November 29, 1780 at 63 years old in Vienna, Austria (Magill 914). Maria Theresa was ver sucessful and reinged for 40 years. Maria was always ready in any emergency. She was one of the most sucessful Habsburg rulers; male or female (Farmer 109).
