    This is the time period President Marcos ruled the Philipines. He ruled as a President then changed it to a parliamentary system and the he declared martial law.

    Took Office in 1966. The Filipino people were excited over the promising young leader that really seemed to care about his people as shown by his down to earth campaign. Little did the know that he would become an infamous dictator that ruled for decades.

    Marcos Sends Troops to Assist the U.S.A in Vietnam
    The Vietnam war was a battle between a communist north and a democratic south where the U.S.A fought. Marcos decided to send Filipino troops to help the United States so that he can continue to be supported financially and then corruptly transfer that money to himself. This was controversial as the Filipino People saw no reason why they should fight in a war that isn't theirs. The U.S.A retrieved their troops as they were losing too many men and then north massacred helpless southern troops.

    It was controversial since it might have been rigged. It is also the first time a Filipino president was re-elected.

    The first quarter storm is a time period were multiple protests and strikes against Marcos by mainly students after fradulent elections.
  • Battle of Mendiola

    Battle of Mendiola
    Protests in front of the palace by upset students, 4 were shot after the gates were opened by a stolen fire truck that was spraying the rebels.
  • First Constitutional Convention

    First Constitutional Convention
    Started June 11, 1971. Marcos tried to change the Filipino constitution into a parliamentary system so that he could extend his term to 6 years. He failed in this attemp to change the constitution
  • Plaza Miranda Bombing

    Plaza Miranda Bombing
    2 grenades went off in a liberal meeting and the culprit was a communist party member. He later suspended habeas corpus using the excuse that communists are on the run yet it was abused to capture political opponents. Habeas corpus can be defined by the need of a reason for being taken or arrested by the goverment. The people beleived it was Marcos' plan.

    He declared martial law or dictatorship for 9 years. As a numerologist, he mentioned that martial law was supposedly already declared September 21 as that is a multiple of seven which he orientend his campaign around.
  • Ninoy Aquino and Jose Diokno Arrested

    Ninoy Aquino and Jose Diokno Arrested
    They were arrested for opposing Marcos as soon as martial law was declared. They were held in Fort Bonifacio as it was a prison camp in that time.
  • Imelda Marcos Attempted Assasination

    Imelda Marcos Attempted Assasination
    In December during a public appearance celebrating the 77th day of martial law, 7 years of Marcos ruling and 7th day of December, a man took out a hidden bolo out of his sleeve and stabbed Imelda several times. Surviving the attack she was rushed to the hospital and rejected plastic surgery as they were scars of bravery and a sign of god giving her a second chance. The years succeeding this event were her most progressive yet as she built the Philippine cultural center and more.
  • The Marco's Constitution was passed.

    The Marco's Constitution was passed.
    He made the Philipines a parliamentary system and tricked the people into voting by asking them to vote for free rice and when everyone voted yes the votes were counted for changing the constitution instead
  • The LABAN Party was formed

    The LABAN Party was formed
    Laban means to fight in Tagalog and its leader was Ninoy Aquino who was imprisoned in Fort Bonifacio and sentenced to death by firing squad along with captured NPA officials.
  • The Noise Barrage Protest

    It showed support of the LABAN party right before the elections as the results of the election were rigged and did not express the feelings of the people.
  • Ninoy Aquino Heart Attack

    Ninoy Aquino Heart Attack
    He was sent to the US for a triple bypass surgery after he suffered a heart attack during his hunger strike. He underwent surgery on the 13th of March.

    To pretend he is democratic he held this election to get supported the U.S.A The major opposing parties did not participate so the election was boycotted and only minor parties ran

    Confetti Revolution

    In 1983 a revolution was sparked by the assassination of the beloved Ninoy Aquino. It involved businessmen that were sometimes benefiting from martial law as there was a belief that without democracy there is no development. It also had support from the silent bystanders that were too afraid to act previously. It ended in the 1986 elections and for some time there were two presidents Corazon Aquino and Ferdinand Marcos.
  • Ninoy Aquino Assasinated

    Ninoy Aquino Assasinated
    As he landed in NAIA, he was shot. Although he was aware that he could be killed if he returned. He was in exile after he needed heart surgery that the Philippines had no facilities for. He was not public about it and traveled around Hong Kong, Singapore, and Malaysia for instance as he wanted to throw off his arrival. He wore a bulletproof vest and had cameramen to film what happens upon his arrival he was shot by a man dressed in staff clothes who was shot so the murder hasn't been solved yet.

    They were called snap election since they were suddenly called by Marcos after criticism by a US news interviewer. Most opposing parties boycotted but a petition begged for Cory Aquino to run against him as the main opposition in the parliamentary system.

    EDSA Uprising

    For these four days, the Filipino people blocked the many tanks on its way to get 2 high ranking officers Fidel Ramos and Juan Ponce Enrile that were hiding in Camp Crame with 500 soldiers. The peaceful crisis stage was not only in Metro Manila but in many regions. After the bravery the people showed the military retreated or joined the rebels.

    Marcos Flees the Philippines
    When the LABAN party was being inaugurated, its supporters overran Metro Manila and Marcos had to flee for his safety to Hawaii with the last helping hand of the U.S.A. He later died of lupus in a hospital. His body was in exposition in Ilocos until President Duterte a supporter of Marcos buried him in the Heroes Cementary.
