    American Longrifle invented
    In this year the American Longrifle was invented. This gun was an advancement in technology and allowed the American colonies to beat the British in warfare. They used a strategy called guerrilla warfare. This was when the marksman of the colonies side would hide in places where the British could not see them. With the help of the American Longrifles that they had this tactic was extremely useful towards them winning fights.
  • The French and Indian War

    The French and Indian War
    The French and Indian War was a key starting point in the Revolutionary War. It really sparked the anger that the colonists had towards Great Britain which led to them rebelling against Great Britain.
  • The Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act was the first actual tax that the British had put upon the British colonies that were in North America at the time. This is similar to the French and Indian War in that the reason behind taxing the colonies was because of the war. It differs in that this was one of the effects of the war, which was the cause.
  • Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre: The Boston Massacre was a very important event in that it really opened all of the colonists eyes. It showed them that the British were willing to kill innocent men just because they were told by their commander to do so. The nine British soldiers were arrested the next day which was slightly relieving for the colonists but not as alarming as the massacre that took place.

    The Boston Tea Party was an event in which a group of people boarded one of the British ships. Once aboard the ship they took all of the tea cargo and threw it into the water. They did this to be a protest against the Tea Act which was earlier passed. This was an event that led to a chain of events in the American Revolution.

    The passage of intolerable acts was an effect of the Boston Tea Party. It banned any use of the Boston harbor until the city repayed the British for the destroyed cargo.
  • First Continental Congress

    This was when the delegates from the 12 colonies all met together to discuss the Intolerable Acts and how they would react to them. In the end they decided to boycott British goods and they further refused to export any American goods.

    The loyalists were an important group of people who were American colonists yet they remained loyal to the British Crown during the Revolutionary War. They helped Britain in any ways and they were hated by all of the patriots.

    The patriots were another important group of people in the American Revolution as they were the ones in the colonies that fully supported the independence from Britain at the time.
  • Battle of Lexington and Concord

    Battle of Lexington and Concord
    The British governor of Massachusetts sent many British troops to take over the colonists’ military stores at Concord. This was the first real battle to the start of the American Revolution. The American colonies won this battle and forced the British troops to retreat.
  • Declaration of Independece.

    This was when the 13 colonies all came together to adopt this document. The document stated that all 13 of the colonies were free from Great Britain and would no longer be apart of them.

    This was a major turning point for the Revolutionary War. This battle is what helped convince the French to join the American colonies in their fight against Britain.

    This was when the British took over the major city of Savannah. This will cut off supplies to the colonies and will hurt them a lot overall in the war. This is very similar to the occupation of Philadelphia in that they both harmed the effectiveness of the colonies overall.

    George Washington was the general and commander-in-chief of the American colonies army during the Revolutionary War. He was an important figure and without him the colonies might not have won the war.
  • Surrender at Yorktown

    Surrender at Yorktown
    The British commander Lieutenant General Lord Cornwallis, who was in charge of the British army in Yorktown at the time, told his army to join him in surrendering to the American and French armies who had surrounded them. Cornwallis was an important figure in the British army but he had to surrender as there was no way out of his situation.

    The Treaty of Paris is the defined end of the Revolutionary War. Britain surrendered to the American colonies and their allies. They admitted defeat and realized that the United States of America were completely free from Britain.
