    Qutbuddin Aibak

    He was born to Turkish parents. He was sold as a slave when young. He was a wise and just ruler. He treated the Hindus with kindness. He built 2 mosques, (Quwwut-ul-Islam at Delhi and one at Ajmer) and he also started the construction of Qutb Minar.
    He ruled for only 4 years and he died in an accident while playing polo in Lahore. He is buried there.

    Iltutmish

    He was the son-in-law of Qutbuddin Aibak. He was invited by the 40 nobles to take the throne of Delhi. He ruled for 25 years. He set up a good administration with proper taxation. He completed the construction of the Quwwut-ul-Islam mosque and Qutb Minar. He built roads and colleges. He was recognized as a remarkable ruler by the Abbasid ruler of the time.
    In 1221, the Mongols tried to attack India but retreated because of the heat of India.

    Razia Sultana

    When Iltutmish died, his son Ruknuddin Feroz succeeded him but he was not a good ruler so Razia took the throne. Razia had mastered the art of leadership and government under her father. She married Altuniyah, the governor of Bhatinda. She marched to Dehli to retake it. She and her husband were killed by outlaws while fleeing from the battlefield.

    Nasiruddin Mahmud

    He was Iltutmish's youngest son. He proved a good Sultan. He set up colleges. He respected Scholars and saintly people. Baba Farid Ganj-e-Shakar and Shaikh Bahauddin Zakariya were 2 Sufi saints of his time.
  • Period: 1266 to 86

    Balban

    He proved as a capable administrator and was successful in driving the mongols away from Punjab. He strengthened his army and also reduced the power of the forty nobles. He built forts to protect the Sultanate. Under his rule the Delhi Sultanate flourished under his rule. Amir Khusro was a poet who lived during his rule. Balban also helped Syed Maula set up a college with a free hostel for students.
