    Development of Alliances
    The development of Alliances was one of the main causes of WWI. It led to the development of the Triple Alliance which consisted of Germany, Austria, and Italy causing that to lead to the creation of the Franco- Russian Alliance. The Triple Entente consisted of Great Britain, France, and Russia this was the other alliance at the time.
  • The Schlieffen Plan

    The Schlieffen Plan
    The Germans had been working on this plan for war for nine years. The Germans believed that the French were weak so it would only take a short amount of time to beat them. They thought the Russians were stronger so it would take their troops a little longer to get mobilized. The plan went wrong for Germany when they invaded Belgium which the British had signed a contract with to help them out in the case of war.

    This was a time of each side not gaining any ground. Each side was pushed back in their trenches with the treacherous no mans land in between. With each side not having any advancements in trench warfare it created a stalemate. Fo the first two months of the war it was a war of movement which turned into a stalemate at the Western Front

    The Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand
    The day of his assassination was the anniversary of the first Battle of Kosovo in 1389 and the second battle in 1448 where Serbia gained their independence. His assassination set off a chain of reactions around the world. This was an important moment for the start of the war. It also affected Austria Hungary and Serbia relations.

    Austria declares war on Serbia
    This was one month to the day of The Archduke and his wife assassination in Sarajevo by Serbian nationalist. Austria-Hungary thought the proper response to the assassination was military action/invasion on Serbia. Austria- Hungary declaring war on Serbia was the start of WWI.

    The battle was the first to use new technologies in combat like radio and automobiles. The battle took place north and east of Paris. The Anglo- French won the battle because the Germans ran out of battle plans and their heavy artillery that had helped them crush their opponents in earlier battles.

    The Lusitania a civilian boat going to Liverpool England form New York. Was torpedoed and sunk by a German U-Boat. This caused a lot of issues because innocent civilians were on the boat.

    Technology of WWI
    The use of machine guns was huge. The germans heavily out weighed us in artillery. They slaughtered the U.S with their powerful machine guns. The Germans in July 1917 created Mustard Gas a horrible weapon used in war. It would cause terrible blisters in the lungs and throat if inhaled. Its purpose was to create awful blisters all over the soldiers body. January 31 1917 the Germans created the U-boat a submarine with the capabilities to take down battle ships.

    This was the second Russian Revolution to happen. This was the revolution that really created the Soviet Union. Czar Nicholas II promised to create a group of representative assemblies after the first revolution in 1905. He later took command of the Russian Army front in the war. He was the last Russian Romanov Rule.
  • Zimmerman Telegram

    Zimmerman Telegram
    A message from the Germans to the German ambassador of Mexico proposing a Mexican-German alliance in case of war between Germany and the U.S. The telegram was intercepted by British code breakers. The British shared this information with the U.S allowing them to get Mexico to not agree.
  • America Joins the War

    America Joins the War
    In 1914 Woodrow Wilson declared the U.S neutral. This was favored by the majority of Americans. Not having joined the war until April 1917 the fresh U.S troops were a huge asset to the Allied Powers. The U.S joining helped stop the Stalemate at the Western Front. The Germans were tiering out but still had a chance to defeat the Allied Powers until the U.S joined which they soon defeated the German Army. If the U.S hadn't joined the Germans would have won the war.
  • The Espionage Act

    The Espionage Act
    The Espionage Act made it a crime for anyone to give information that could interfere with the U.S actions in the war or advance the efforts/success of the enemies. If found guilty they had to pay a fine of $10,000 and sentence of 20 years in prison
  • Armistice

    Armistice
    The signing of the Armistice by Germany and the Allies called for a cease fire November 11 1918 at 11am. It was the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month. The Allied powers won and Germany lost.
