Because of the fact that this was the first true war of the Civil War, the Union and the Confederates both startign taking this war seriously. The confederates were the side that one this battle.

    Battle of Fort Donelson and Fort Henry
    The generals of this battle were, for the Union it was Ulysees S Grant, and the general for the Confederates was Lloyd Tilghman. Some poeple say that this battle in which the south lost all odds of winnign this war. At the end of this battle the Union had won, and the winning of this battle allowed the Union to bring their gunships down the river and into the South so the Union could go in and shoot at the towns.

    The generals in this battle were, for the Union the generals was William Tecumsen Sherman and General Grant, and the gneral for the the Confederatcy was General Pierre Beauregard. This batle was a big lose for the confederate and it was also one of the bloodiest battles of the civil war. Many people up North were very revotlted as they heard about all of the men that were lost and all of the blood that was shed in the battle.

    The generals in this battle were, for the Union was David Farragut, and for the Confederacy it was Mansfielfd Lovell. This was certainly one of hte biggest loses in the Civil for the Confederate. This was their biggest city and controlled most of their money and trade. After this battle the Confederacy was nearly split in two and it was an all around huge lose for them.

    The generals for this battle were, for the Union it was General McClellan, and for the Confederate side the generals were Robert E Lee and Jeb Stuart. After theses battles, the Confederate had a huge moral boost that was well needed and helped the soldiers keep fighting and keep believeing in what they were fighting for. This also put an end to the Unions short winning streak that they were getting against the Confederacy.

    The generals for this battle were, for the Union was Irvin McDowell, and for the Confederate side it was Joseph E Johnston. This battle was a huge victory for the Confederates. This Battle proved that the Confederates still had what it takes to comeback and win this war once and for all. It also showed that the Confederates will not back down and that they will fight down to the last man to fight for what they beilieve in.

Over 23,100 men died in this battle, so each side suffered very heavy casulaties. Even then at most times Lees army was outnumberd to 2 to 1 he kept on fighting up unitl the battle was getting to overbearing. In the end Robert was forced to retreat with his army further south so his army was completeley
