  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763
This proclamation declared that the colonist had to stay on the East Coast, as natives were fighting for the land westward. This voided many land claims and angered many colonists. It helped create united anger towards Britain, a vital step in the revolution. Many times, the colonist just ignored the proclamation, so Britain often had to forcefully send colonists back from the west to keep the proclamation in the act.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
This act taxed all documents and products made from paper, including playing cards, wills, deeds, land claims, certificates, etc. It wasn't a significant amount, but it still sparked the colonist's reaction with fierce anger with groups like the Sons of Liberty forming. This caused the act to be revoked later on by the British Parliament.

  • Quartering Act

    Quartering Act
This act made colonists provide shelter, food, space, sleeping gear, etc. for soldiers who would reside in empty town buildings. Once again, the people resented paying taxes for the barracks of the soldiers. In response, the Suspending Act was enacted, which stopped The New York Assembly from meeting.

  • Townshend Acts

    Townshend Acts
This act taxed most imports to the colonies, such as lead, glass, paint, etc. in another attempt to regain control of the colonies and to receive money. People in Boston, whose main income was from shipping, hated the act. They hanged their tax collector and started riots. These events led to the Boston Massacre, which was caused by British soldiers in Boston.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
This lowered the amount of tax on the East India Company. Although this seems promising, it puts traders, shop workers, and other workers in a tricky situation. In response, the colonist performed the Boston Tea Party. In response to the party, Parliament passed the Intolerable Acts.
