Because Billy's parents love and support him he has learned to trust them. Billy's parents keep him on a schedule to help him feel more comfortable with a predictable enviornment. Billy feels safe so he cries less and likes to try and babble to his parents.

Even though all the peices don't fit correctly together Billy's parents are letting him accomplish things on his own even though they aren't correct. They support him through it so he has no shame or doubt even though he is making mistakes.

Billy really likes school and is concerned with what his teacher thinks of him so he gives her an apple in search of her approval!

Billy's friends want to drink but he knows that it isn't the right thing to do. Although he will lose the approval of his friends he is following rules estabnlished by the respected authority figures (his parents) and the law.

He gets all his homeowork done and chores picked up.
He gets all his homework done and his chores tomorrow, or he has to stay home for a day this weekend.
He doesn't do anything and he has to stay home the whole weekend.
Billy is looking at his options but hasn't yet made a commitment to any of them.
