The ship, Pharaon, arrived in Marseilles
This event basically began the whole novel and the plot because the arrival of the ship introduces the audience to Dantes and Monsieur Morrel. -
Dantes is imprisoned
This event causes Abbe Faria and Dantes to meet, and Faria gives Edmond the idea of revenge, which goes on throughout the novel, and also instructs Dantes on where to find his inherited riches, which makes Dantes rich later in the novel. Faria is the one to trigger Edmond's whole plan to begin. -
Dantes escapes prison
Once Dantes escapes prison, he becomes a new persona known as "the Count of Monte Cristo", and the count is the one who causes all of the other characters to change in a good and bad way. -
Dantes finds the treasure
Dantes uses the treasure that he learns of from Faria to commit his plan of vengeance against those who wronged him. -
Dantes' revenge on Fernand
Dantes exposed Fernand for having killed Ali Pasha and getting riches from him leading to his wife and son leaving him, and once that happens, he kills himself. -
Dantes' revenge on Villefort
Dantes learns about Villefort's affair with Madame Danglars and about the baby he tried to bury alive, so he spreads the info about the event to ruin Villefort. -
Villefort goes mad
After everyone finds out about him buring his baby alive, he goes home in hope that his wife hadn't killed herself yet, but the moment he arrives, he finds her dead on the ground along with his son whom she murdered because she did not want to die alone. Also, the count reveals his true identity to him and Villefort goes mad. This reveals a lot about Dantes too because he realizes that his revenge plot is not only negatively affecting the bad but the good too. -
Revenge on Danglars
Dantes has Danglars kidnapped and gives him food that costs way too much so he can get the $5 million francs that Danglars has and gives the money to hospitals. This impacts Danglars a lot because he is now bankrupt and Dantes has now completed his vengeance. -
End of Novel
The novel wraps up with a happy ending leaving Edmond to sail away with Haydee, and Maximilien and Valentine end up together, most likely getting married soon after the novel ends. Dantes' last words said to Max and Valentine are "Wait and hope", which signifies that by just being patient and keeping up hope for happiness, good will come. :)
