Goodnight Moon was one of the first books I was taught to read by my aunt, when I was around 4 years old. I would read it to my stuffed animals every night. I loved facing the book towards them so that they could see the illustrations.

I first read "Giraffes Can't Dance" by Giles Andreae and Guy Parker-Rees in first grade. I came home and told my mom about how if I really believed in myself, I could do anything because this giraffe was able to dance.

"Wonder" by R.J Palacio was my first true chapter book. I felt very grown carrying it around school. It was my favorite book until 6th grade even though it made me cry every single time.

Multiplication was the first big word I remembering spelling by myself. It was during math class in third grade and while I sounded it out, it echoed in the room.

Introduce, Cite, Explain, Elaborate was engraved into my brain in 5th grade. I wrote my first real essay with three ICEE paragraphs after reading the book "Chains" by Laurie Halse Anderson.

The first time I wrote an essay that was not on a book was in ninth grade. I was lost on how to cite and quote websites. Getting the works cited page correct took me three essays.

I read "The Catcher in the Rye" by J.D. Salinger in Mrs. Plumey's class. This was my favorite book of the year, as I resonated so deeply with it. This book made me realize that I do enjoy reading, I just have to find books that I actually find interesting and may connect with.
