Literacy Timeline

  • The Very Beginning

    The Very Beginning
Before I was even born, my mom would read to me before she went to bed. She would read a lot of different things like magizines, children's books, and even the newspaper.
  • The Flood

    The Flood
On July 3, 1994, tropical storm Alberto struck the Florida panhandle with maximum sustained winds of 60 miles per hour. High waters forced closure of 175 roads in 30 counties, and more than 100 dams and recreational watersheds were either damaged or destroyed. The picture shown is the levee that broke in Macon
  • The Flood Book

    The Flood Book
A few months after the flood happened, a book was released with pictures and stories about the flood. I can remember my mom looking at it with me. I wasn't able to read yet, but I really enjoyed looking though the pictures in the book and hearing my mom read the stories. As the years passed by, my mom would help me understand the stories.
  • Goodnight Moon

    Goodnight Moon
Goodnight Moon was my all time favorite book as a child. When I was about 2 years old my mom would read it to me before bedtime. My mom would read to me before bed and I remember that I would pick 5 books for her to read with me and Goodnight Moon was always one of the five.
  • My First Book!

    My First Book!
First book I ever read all by myself! Fun with Dick and Jane was a book I had to read in 1st grade. It was part of a list we had to complete.I remember hating the book list because I didn't enjoy what I was reading because it was stressful. After reading the book, I figured out that I enjoyed reading books that I could relate to. I figured out that for me to enjoy reading, I needed to choose books to read that I actually wanted to read, not just books that teachers forced me to read for school.
  • Arthur

    Arthur
By the time I was reading, I found myself owning every copy of Arthur. I would watch Artthur on tv and then read his books before bed. This was the first series of books that I actually enjoyed.
  • Junie B Jones

    Junie B Jones
Around the same time as Arthur, Junie B Jones was another one of my favorites. Junie B Jones was the first chapter book I had ever read. I remember borrowing and trading Junie B Jones books at school with my friends. My mom didn't like me reading this series because Junie B didn't use correct grammer. My mom would make sure I was aware of that, and it made me conscious of speaking correctly at a young age. haha.
  • High School to Now

    High School to Now
Since reading became pretty boring in high school, I lost the passion for reading for enjoyment and starting thinking of reading as chore. Recently, I have been trying to make time to enjoy a good book. My plan is to start reading more!
