    George H.W. Bush was born in Milton, Massachusetts. His father is Prescott Bush. He was born into a politically active, and wealthy family. Bush had attended an elite boarding school in Andover, Massachusetts called, Phillips Academy.

    On Bush's 18th birthday, he enlisted in the armed forces. During World War II he flew 58 combat missions. Bush enlisted in the U.S. Navy, making him the youngest pilot in the Navy during World War II. He had a brush with death when his plane was hit during a mission across the Pacific. He escaped the burning plane and was rescued by a Navy submarine.

    At the age of 20 (going on 21) Bush married a woman named Barbara Pierce. They had a total of six children named George, Robin, John, Neil, Marvin, and Dorothy. Robin had died as a child though.

    Bush had attended Yale after the war and graduated with a degree in economics. Some time after that, he had moved to Midland, Texas to focus on oil and petroleum industries to find success.

    Bush became chairman of the Harris County Republican Party. He ran an unsuccessful campaign for a U.S. Senate seat in Texas the next year. Two years after his unsuccessful Senate campaign, he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives.

    Bush campaigned for the Republican nomination for President, but he lost. Although, he lost he was still chosen for vice president. In 1988 Bush won the Republican nomination for President.

    During his presidency, Bush began the Point of Light Award. It has been awarded to more than 5000 recipients to date, and is a reward given to people making a significant difference in the lives of others.

    Bush was admitted to a Houston, Texas, hospital to be treated for a cough related to bronchitis. Bush had other health setbacks, so even after he reportedly got better he was still hospitalized.

    fell at his summer home in Kennebunkport, Maine, and broke a vertebra in his neck, though said that it was not life threatening.
