  • Goodnight Moon

    Goodnight Moon
As a kid, my first book memory is of my mom reading Goodnight Moon to me at night. It was my first favorite book as a child and everytime I see or read it I think of my mom tucking me in at night.

  • Winnie-the-Pooh

    Winnie-the-Pooh
My next memory of reading as a child was the Winnie the Pooh series. As a young girl, I loved anything Winnie the Pooh. Watching the show, reading the books, and even educational computer games. The show is what got me into reading the books which made my love for books grow even more.
  • Reading Development Class

    Reading Development Class
Going into first grade, I still hadn’t learned how to read so I was put into a reading development class. I remember going to the class at a set time each day and working on reading one on one with an instructor. Although I don’t remember specifically what books I read while in the course, it developed my love for reading. I remember the first time I could actually read through a whole book and it was such an accomplishment.
  • Dr.Seuss

    Dr.Seuss
A series of books I always enjoyed reading was Dr. Seuss. My mom and I would read the books together and eventually I could read them on my own. I enjoyed the rhymes and the goofy plots in each of the books. I would read the Dr. Seuss books to my younger sister and tried teaching her how to read them too. This was the moment I realized how much I loved teach.
  • Junie B. Jones

    Junie B. Jones
As an elementary student, one of my favorite memories was going to the library and the book fairs at the school. I could never resist Junie B. Jones. I own and have read almost all of them. I loved that Junie B. Jones was my age and was such a relatable character. I would read the book from start to finish in one sitting and was always waiting for the release of the next book. The first one I ever read was Junie B. Jones and the Stupid Smelly Bus.
  • Reading packets

    Reading packets
As I got older, teachers would create reading packets along with a set of questions to prepare us for the state mandated test. I didn’t enjoy this because I was being forced to read and had to answer questions to be graded. Some of the stories interested in me, but some did not. Knowing that questions would follow the reading also made it less enjoyable, because I felt the pressure of getting a good grade.
  • Romeo and Juliet

    Romeo and Juliet
As a freshman in high school, we were required to read a few of Shakespeare’s work. The first was Romeo and Juliet. Though the overall story line was interesting, it wasn’t an easy read because of the language that they used. This caused me to stray away from reading as I got older and older. I wasn’t interested in reading Shakespeare and being forced to read it only caused me to not like it even more.
  • Writing

    Writing
When I was a senior in high school, I took dual credit English and eventually found my love for reading once again. Although I was required to read, I began to love it again. After each assigned reading, we had to write a paper over what we had read. I think being required to write after reading is what I loved. I discovered that I loved to write, and began reading for my own enjoyment again.
  • The Lovely Bones

    The Lovely Bones
One of my high school friends was an avid reader and mentioned that The Lovely Bones was a great read. Since I had just gotten back into reading again and had always loved mystery books as a kid, I decided I would read it.This book helped me begin to read other books for my own enjoyment and discover that I did still love to read, I just had to find my interest.
  • Before We Were Strangers

    Before We Were Strangers
One of the latest books that I’ve read is Before We Were Strangers by Renee Carlino. I was at Barnes and Noble with a friend looking through books, deciding which one I would purchase. My friend picked this book up and read the summary and knew it would be perfect for me. The book takes place in New York which is one of my favorite places that I’ve traveled, so I was instantly hooked. If it had not been for the fact that I was busy, I would have read the book from start to finish in one sitting.
