    The Journy Began
    Lewis and Clark started this expedition after Thomas Jefferson bought a lot of land from France.Their job was to explore the new area. They started in St. Louis, MO and went all the way to the pacifis ocean.
  • Crossing the Miossouri

    Crossing the Miossouri
    The journy accross the miossuri was a hard one.They sailed up the Missouri for sixty miles.The waters were raging and they really needed to cross, with some detirmination and a little luck the team crossed. Little did they know they would have to climb over a mountain with all of their supplies.
  • Meeting Native Americans

    Meeting Native Americans
    The explorers were supposed to wright down all the living things on the lousiana purchase. This included all of the tribes of natives they ran into. The first tribe they ran into was the oto near pesent day Omaha Nabraska. This was the fist tribe that made a treaty of peace with the american explorers.
  • The first death

    The first death
    Sergeant Charles Floyd died near Sioux City Iowa. He died due to a burst appendix. Now he is buried in a hill called Floyds Bluff, near by Floyds river.

    America here I come
    Lewis has a friendly metting with teh ynakton Sioux tribe. According to oral tradition when there was a baby born Lewis, wriped him in the U.S. flag. Then he delcared him an american.

    The exploreds endured lots of things while they were exploring. One of the things that they experianced was the clodest winter of their life time. THey had noidea the it would get so cold on the luoisan purchase, since it was a nice summer.
  • Meeting a Guide

    Meeting a Guide
    Lewis and Clark had made their way up to around (present day) Bismark, ND. They were greeted by the Mandan tribe and given Sacagawea as a guide. She had given birth to her first born son tow months earlier and was able to guide the explorers. She was able to guide the explorers because she grew up in the Shoshone tribe, and knew the land.
  • Venturing further

    Venturing further
    Lewis and Clark, after a long winter have started to go up river. They are going up river to find where the river starts. Once they find where the river starts they were about half wasy done witht heir journy one way.
  • Getting to Montana

    Getting to Montana
    By now Lewis and Clark had traveled about 2,000 miles up the Missouri. They had met several native american tribes. they had also named several plants and animals.
  • Landmarks

    Sacagawea started to notice some land marks the she had seen as a child. This ment the they were getting closer to the shashone tribe! Sacagawea kew the shashone people and language because she grew up there.
  • Starting to Crossing the Rockies

     Starting to Crossing the Rockies
    The epedidtion was to cross the rockies. The good part was going down but going up was loaded with lots and lots of problems. These problems cosisted of loss of supplise and other goods.
  • Finding the Ocean

    Lewis and Clark found the Pacific ocean on Christmas day. It was a wonderful day for them. They knew that they could now turn back and go home. They found many plants and animals on their journey and documented them all.
  • Supply shortage

    Supply shortage
    Going back home would have been hard with the supply shortage but it wasn't that bad. Sacagawea would tell them what they could use to subsitute for things they were having a shortage of. This ment that she woud get then tobacco and alcohal substitutes when they needed them.

    Sacagawea lead the explorers back the the mississippi. This time the trip was ot as long. This was becasue the explorers knew where they were going now and didn't kneew as much assestence.
  • The Expidition Ends

    Lewis and Clark had safly returned to St. Louis, MO. The had loads of inmormation for the president and the people. They used journals like the one in the pictue to document the countryside as they were there.
