In May the expedition almost lost one of its two pirogues because a gust of wind caught the sails and made the boat fall over onits side. All of the journals and documents would have been lost if it wasn't for sacagewea when she reached in and retrieved as much as she could.

They had to get horses in order to continue, so they had to find the shoshone tribe

They meet some indians that gave them horses and they began their journey over the bitteroot mountains.

They finally see the ocean

Lewis and Clark decided to make a camp south of the columbia. The whole stay was gloomy, and tedious work.

Everyone on the expedition was ready to go home. But they had to wait for just the right time, so the snow was melted off the mountains.

There was a strong current the men had to battle, and the chinookan indians kept attempting to steal their supplies. They abandoned the canoes and went on on horses.

They began to make 80 miles a day. They made it back to St. Louis and everyone was there embracing them, and setting off gunshots in salute to the men.
